What to look for
In a Roofing Contractor

  1. Does the contractor insist on half the money up front or at least a deposit when the shingles arrive?

Never give a contractor money up front. A good contractor will do the work first and then deserve his pay. Giving a contractor money up front takes control out of your hands if things go wrong. Unless it’s a special order product, Olson-Legatt Roofing insists you don’t pay until we are done and we are not done until you say we are done.

  2. Is the contractor pressuring you to sign today?

We want your decision to be the right one for you. Take time to consider the proposal. You have the right to think about it as long as you want.

  3. Are you comfortable with the contractor?

You should feel at ease. If you sense the contractor could be difficult to deal with should problems occur, you may want to keep looking. We want you to be glad we came, not relieved we’re gone. Our goal is that you will feel you can call us about anything after the project is completed.

  4. Is the roofer a local contractor?

Everyone claims to be local, even the storm chasers who will leave in a year. Find out who he buys materials from and ask the supplier how new the roofer is to our area.

  5. Is the contractor licensed and insured? Does he carry worker’s compensation?

Olson-Legatt Roofing is licensed in both Minnesota and North Dakota. We carry full liability and worker’s compensation insurance, so that no responsibility is on the homeowner.

  6. Does the contractor offer a workmanship warranty in writing?

Olson-Legatt Roofing provides a 10-year warranty upon payment in full.
